The Shelter That Helped Me Survive Some Difficult Times

We all face tough times in life.

I’ve had my share and I’m sure you’ve had yours.

One particularly tough time was right after I started my business.

I would stay up nights worrying about getting the bills paid. I had no business experience, no networking skills and I was a complete dope when it came to marketing and advertising.

On top of all that, I wasn’t even sure if I was a very good dog trainer.

Talk about being scared.

And then one day I got a call from an animal shelter in Middletown, RI. The executive director asked me to come and meet with her. When I sat down across from her I was surprised to learn that she wanted me to teach classes there. I was also surprised that she was going to pay me.

I was hoping for a few referrals. I taught group dog training classes there for the next three years. During that time, many of the people that I met there did a lot of business with me. They referred me and gave me testimonials that I still use to this day.

Those three years got me over the hump and my business started to take off. I will always be grateful to The Robert Potter League for Animals. Without them I am not sure how things would have turned out.

Which is why I am participating in their Heart and Sole Walk for the Animals on June 7th.
