Is Your Dog A Little Monster?

Are you familiar with Lady Gaga? She’s a pop singer with a HUGE following. She’s done some outrageous stunts that have made many people angry. Here’s a short list: 1. Wore a dress made out of raw meat to the 2010 Music Awards. 2. Showed up at the 2011 Grammy Awards red carpet encased in a gigantic, see-through egg 3. She set her boobs on fire. 4. And the most unforgivable – she kissed Kermit the frog and then turned him into a poncho that she wore. Anyway, Lady Gaga fans are known as Little Monsters and one thing I… Read the rest

Stop Eating Dirt

So I’m a seafood nut. Love it. Shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, fish, you name it. My good friend, Craig, decided to visit from the Western part of of Massachusetts and he loves seafood as much as I do. Being the gracious host that I am, I made him an authentic Southeastern MA clam boil. I’m sitting there watching him eat the clams when I noticed that he just ripped them out of the shell and popped them into his mouth. Clams, also known as steamers, need to be shucked. There is a little membrane that needs to be peeled off… Read the rest

One Simple “Trick” To Get Damn Good Dog Training Results

You were very smart to read today’s hard hitting, information packed, entertaining email because of what you are going to learn. But first, a quick story….. …..a few years back at a business seminar I was attending, the speaker talked about how Disney World has a “No bad days” policy for their employees. The speaker said that people save for years and travel thousands of miles expecting a trip of a lifetime. If the guy dressed in the Goofy suit is in a bad mood and takes it out on a visitor, he has ruined their experience. Disney would rather… Read the rest

Had a great Father’s Day yesterday and spent it on the beach in Westport with my wife Rachael, our daughter Scarlett and our dog Martini. I did a little dog training with Martini while I was there. Scarlett loves playing with Martini and seeing her do obedience and tricks. You can see a picture of them on my Facebook page: Amazing Dog Training Man Facebook Page If you look closely you’ll see that Martini has a leash on but no one is holding onto it. So here’s a little leash walking trick for you to try. Find a fenced in… Read the rest

Even If God Came Down And Pointed His Hand At Your Dog

So I’m sitting across from this very nice lady and her 6 month old husky the other day. As she is talking, a picture pops into my head. I was sitting there thinking of…. ….Bill Murray. I know, my thoughts concern me sometimes too. Anyway, I was thinking of Bill Murray and one of my all time favorite movies, “Meatballs.” Funny movie from the 70’s about a summer camp and the hijinks all the camp counselors get into. The best scene in the movie is when Bill gives a pep talk to rally the camp after losing last year to… Read the rest

Dog Trainer Reveals One Word Dog Training Secret

I was teaching a class last week in Dartmouth MA and I shared with them the one word that would greatly improve their dog training skillz. See, I can walk into a group of dog owners with unruly dogs, take any one of them and within a few minutes, start getting results. This amazes the dog owners. “Look, he just took the worst dog in the class and now has him walking on leash and listening to him,” I often hear. Really, any good dog trainer can do the same because they know this one word. The word is… …ANTICIPATION!… Read the rest

Why Your Dog Pulls On Leash – And What You Can Do About It

Boy comes home with all F’s on his report card. Shows his dad the report card and then asks: “Well dad, what do you think it is? Genetics or environment?” Funny joke with a lot of truth to it. The boy holds the father accountable for his poor results. Training a dog can be tough because the results are up to us and one of the most difficult commands is leash walking. Most dogs pull because they constantly get rewarded for it. Think about it for a second. Your dog is on leash and sees a telephone pole he wants… Read the rest

Are You Using The Right Leash To Walk Your Dog?

Leash walking can be difficult, embarrassing and sometimes painful. If you’ve ever been dragged down the street by a dog, you know what I’m talking about. What most people don’t know is that the type of leash you use is important. Not only the type but also the length. You see, I’ve seen many dog owners try to teach their dogs to walk on leash with fishing pole leashes – also known as the flexi-leash. Worst leash on the planet for teaching loose leash walking. Next is the short leash. I’ve seen plenty of people use a short, three to… Read the rest

Fall River MA Dog Training Class Learns Leash Walking Secret

Was teaching a dog training class in Fall River MA when we starting discussing Shakespeare. Probably one of his most famous lines is from Hamlet. Hamlet is thinking about cashing in by committing suicide when he said this famous line: “To be or not to be, that is the question.” Hamlet was trying to figure out if he should live or die. So let’s step away from the ledge and talk about something less serious – like dog training. In particular, leashes. When it comes to training equipment, the leash is very important. But, a leash can cause a lot… Read the rest

Training A Dog To Walk On Leash In New Bedford

For years I joked about Labrador Retrievers in my obedience classes. I would always ask: “How can you pick out a lab owner in a room full of dog owners?” Answer: The lab owner is the one with the black eyes and arms in a cast. Labs are not the only dogs that pull on leash. Every breed of dog pulls, but labs are experts because they are so happy with forward movement. You can see it in their faces: “We’re going somewhere? AWESOME, Let’s go!” The four wheels (or paws) kick in and the human on the other end… Read the rest
