What A Skinny,Crying California Native Can Teach You About Leash Walking

Hello sports fans!

Okay, this is not a sports newsletter and I know that many of you don’t like when I talk about sports. You come here for hard hitting dog training advice from the Bruce Lee of the dog training world – me (hehe).

BUT – hang with me for a second because you sometimes find the best advice from outside the subject you’re studying.

Take the great Tom Brady and last night’s sizzling game against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

It was a perfect football day in Massachusetts yesterday. Cold, wind blowing, and even a little snow. Great day to hunker down and watch some pre-game interviews.

I watched the interview of Tom Brady crying, talking about how he was drafted in the sixth round and how he almost became an insurance salesman.

Many of Tom Brady’s ex and current teammates were interviewed. And there was one behavior that Brady has mastered. Everyone that talked about him shared the same opinion and said the same thing.

They all agreed that the one thing that Tom Brady does better than anyone is…..

……FOCUS!

He has laser like focus and during the week of practice it is all about walking onto the field and winning.

The past few months have been interesting for me. I started teaching group obedience classes again. This is something I haven’t done in quite a few years.

It gave me some good perspective and I changed the way I do them. I spend very little time on teaching sit, down, stand and stay.

I now spend the majority of my time teaching leash walking and the recall.

I really focus on leash walking because it is the one command that requires the owner to develop some dog training skills.

If you can improve your timing just a little, you can get your dog to walk with you and won’t need choke or prong collars. As of this writing, I am helping a family with two Great Danes train their dogs to walk without pulling.

A few days ago we walked down a busy street to the park with the dogs under control. You see, it’s not about force and pain when you train a dog. It’s about understanding your dog and helping them to do what you need them to.

If you’re having a problem with leash walking and would like to train your dog to walk without dragging you down the street, check out The Leash Walking Secrets Course that I put together for you.

My system works on big dogs, small dogs, active dogs and everything in between.
