Would You Call Saul Goodman?

One of the greatest shows to ever appear on TV was “Breaking Bad.”

In case you never saw the show, it is about this poor schlub, Walter White, a middle aged high school chemistry teacher with a baby on the way when he finds out he has cancer. His diagnosis is pretty grim and he realizes he is about to leave his wife, son and newborn baby with no money.

So he does what anyone with an understanding of chemistry would do. He starts making meth and gets involved with the absolute worst elements of society that you could imagine. A truly great show and by the last episode you were sad but relieved that it was over.

Very difficult to accomplish.

But when I found out they were taking one of the main characters and making a spin off I was happy as a butcher’s dog.

Better Call Saul is about the lawyer that represents Walter White in Breaking Bad. Better Call Saul takes place six years before he meets Walter White. He is a struggling lawyer trying to build his business.

Each day he goes back to his office and checks for any messages. He prays, hopes, begs his phone to have a message. He hits the button and hears, “You have no messages,” everyday and gets depressed.

I know how old Saul feels. Starting a business is tough. It’s scary and depressing when you have more bills than clients and your phone is dead. I used to have my mom call me to make sure the ringer was working (this was in 1995 before cell phones took over the world). It starts to turn around for Saul when he starts to do things to get his phone ringing.

Saul is confused about getting customers which is why is is begging and praying.

Not a good strategy.

I have seen and talked to a lot of dog owners who have begged their dogs to be better. I’ve seen them bribe, “If you’re a good boy I’ll bring you home a cheeseburger.” I’ve seen them plead, “Please, please, please be a good boy today and don’t bark.” And I’ve seen a fair share of wishing, “I just wish he would listen to me.”

It’s all good man.

Because you don’t have to wish, plead, beg or pray for your dog to get better. You just need to follow some steps and then…..

…..take action.

We’re not even talking about massive action. Just ten minutes a day and you’ll get results with your dog. The best way to get results is to follow these four steps:

1. Management
2. Exercise (physical and mental)
3. Leadership and structure
4. Teach what behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable

That’s it. Follow those four steps and you’ll be happy as a cat under a leaky cow.
