Fall River, Massachusetts.
Home of Battleship Cove, great Portuguese food and Emeril Lagasse and George Stephanopoulos can point to Fall River as their hometown.
And who can forget the most famous ax murderer of all time – Lizzie Borden?
Wait a minute, sorry about that last one. Lizzie was found not guilty.
Anyway….
…..it also happens to be where I opened my business back in 1995. I was also an animal control officer there for a few years.
So when I woke up this morning I did not like the news being reported. Three pit bulls escaped from their yard and attacked three people. One of them a 70 year old lady who is still in the hospital.
This is bad on so many levels I don’t even know where to start.
FIRST: Three people were attacked and injured. This is awful and we are lucky that we are not hearing about a fatality.
SECOND: This will stir up the anti-pitbull crowd and new laws will be called for and it is very difficult to defend a breed that already has a HUGE target on them.
THIRD: What happens to the dogs? They are a threat to society. They attacked and injured innocent people and it could have been much, much worse.
FOURTH: What is the owner going to do? Would you want these dogs going back to him?
Dogs are a big responsibility and when you decide to bring one into your home to live with you and your family you have to provide food, a sleeping area, mental and physical stimulation and most importantly, you have to train your dog.
A dog is a predator that would hunt and use teeth and jaws to survive. Your dog has to be taught how to exist with humans, how to respond to certain commands and this can only be accomplished through training.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the past few days. I received so many emails from new Dog Training Inner Circle members that joined after offering it for just $1.00. Many said they were on tight budgets and this helped them.
After all the emails and today’s sad news, I’ve decided I am going to keep it at just $1.00 to join.
That’s how committed I am to helping as many people as possible train their dogs.
What about you?
Do you want to learn how to train your dog? It’s not very hard and it’s what The Dog Training Inner Circle is all about. Here’s where to go NEXT:
Best,
Eric
Wow, this is so sad. I have to admit it does make me fearful of the breed in general. I know they get a lot of bad press for sure ..and I just don’t understand why the owners are not more conscious of this and act more responsibly. Sadly, too many stories like this are linked to them. What can we do to help and correct this?
It is very sad Chris. I have thought about this for years and still have no answers.
