As a dog trainer who started in Fall River MA you wouldn’t think Miley Cyrus and I have much in common.
I was thinking of this when I saw that Miley Cyrus is TIME Magazine’s 2013 Person of the Year.
I don’t sing, dress or “twerk” like Miley.
But there is one thing we have in common. You see, Miley is Time Magazine’s 2013 Person of the Year.
You probably won’t believe this but I was Time Magazine’s 2006 Person of the Year. I am NOT joking about this. I am being completely honest and you can look it up after you finish reading this.
Anyway, there is one other thing we have in common. Miley will do ANYTHING to get attention as she has displayed over the past year.
I will do anything to get my dog’s attention when it comes to training.
Attention is the foundation for ALL of your training. Chances are, if your dog is not paying attention to you, your dog is probably not going to perform the command.
Before you ever give a command you have to get attention. Get your dog looking at you and THEN give your dog the command.
Here is one of the best tips I can ever give you.
Work on attention every chance you get. When you put your dog’s food bowl down, get your dog to give you eye contact before the food goes down.
When you are playing, get eye contact before, during and at the end of the game.
Before going out the door, work on getting your dog to look at you before opening the door.
Improve attention and you’ll improve obedience without doing anything else.
It’s ALL about attention. Get attention and you’ll get results.
Look at what attention has done for Miley’s career.
One more thing before taking off – you get my full attention when you and your dog come to one of my dog training classes.
I opened my dog training business back in 1995 in Fall River MA and have been helping dog owners ever since.
