I know it’s a common statement but you CAN lead a horse to water and make him drink.
In fact, you can make him drink a lot of water.
How is this done Kemosabe?
Very simple. All you need is some….
…..SALT!
Put a generous portion of salt in the horse’s oats and ole Seabiscuit will race to the closest water. You won’t have to lead him, he’ll lead you.
NOT that I would ever recommend doing that, but what I would recommend is using treats to train your dog.
I was teaching a class the other night and one of the dogs there was not interested in the treats the owner was using.
The owner informed me that his dog had just had a big bowl of dog chow before class.
Whoops – not going to get much of a response from this pup.
The next time you train your dog, do it before you feed them their meal. If you feed your dog everyday at 5:00PM, do your training at 4:00PM.
I know it sounds simplistic but just about everyone on the planet also believes that you can’t lead a horse to water and make them drink.
Anyway, just trying to help you get the most out of each training session and if you want your dog to learn to come when called, a belly full of Chuck Wagon will slow down the whole process.
And since the recall (come when called) command is the most important command, you want your dog to learn the most at each training session.
Which is why I created The Ultimate Online Recall Course and I’ve salted it with a few extra bonus gifts. Get all the details HERE:
