One of my favorite places for dog training is in New Bedford MA.
New Bedford Mass, The Whaling City has a great park to do dog training in.
Fort Taber is very scenic and provides plenty of distractions for your dog.
When you train a dog you start off teaching the basics. You teach your dog to do sit, down, stand, stay, come and loose leash walking.
Once your dog has an understanding of the commands you need to start testing your dog. You need to see if your dog can do commands with distractions.
Also called proofing.
Proofing requires training with the 3 D’s. Here is what 3’D’s are:
Duration
Distractions
Distance
Fort Taber is a great place to work on the 3D’s along with some great views.
So the first D is getting your dog to do the commands for longer periods of time. You want to start working on getting your dog to longer stay commands and longer attention.
The second D is distractions. Go to Fort Taber and you’ll find plenty of distractions for your dog to work around. If your dog can do a long down stay with everything going on your dog is well trained.
And the last is distance. You want your dog to come from longer distances. You also want your dog to do a stay command when you are at a distance.
