The Greatest Dog Training Book Ever Written

Started a group obedience class last night at the Humane Society & Shelter South Coast in Dartmouth MA. Great class with some really nice dogs. Some of the younger pups were so excited that they were not interested in treats or their owners. They wanted to party. So a great question was asked: “What do I do when my dog is not interested in me or the treats?” Some trainers would recommend force. Some would advise patience. Others would blame the dog. Not me. I say: “Let the dog have what it wants.” “What? How can you say that? What… Read the rest

Is Your Dog A Little Monster?

Are you familiar with Lady Gaga? She’s a pop singer with a HUGE following. She’s done some outrageous stunts that have made many people angry. Here’s a short list: 1. Wore a dress made out of raw meat to the 2010 Music Awards. 2. Showed up at the 2011 Grammy Awards red carpet encased in a gigantic, see-through egg 3. She set her boobs on fire. 4. And the most unforgivable – she kissed Kermit the frog and then turned him into a poncho that she wore. Anyway, Lady Gaga fans are known as Little Monsters and one thing I… Read the rest

Stop Eating Dirt

So I’m a seafood nut. Love it. Shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, fish, you name it. My good friend, Craig, decided to visit from the Western part of of Massachusetts and he loves seafood as much as I do. Being the gracious host that I am, I made him an authentic Southeastern MA clam boil. I’m sitting there watching him eat the clams when I noticed that he just ripped them out of the shell and popped them into his mouth. Clams, also known as steamers, need to be shucked. There is a little membrane that needs to be peeled off… Read the rest

One Simple “Trick” To Get Damn Good Dog Training Results

You were very smart to read today’s hard hitting, information packed, entertaining email because of what you are going to learn. But first, a quick story….. …..a few years back at a business seminar I was attending, the speaker talked about how Disney World has a “No bad days” policy for their employees. The speaker said that people save for years and travel thousands of miles expecting a trip of a lifetime. If the guy dressed in the Goofy suit is in a bad mood and takes it out on a visitor, he has ruined their experience. Disney would rather… Read the rest

Even If God Came Down And Pointed His Hand At Your Dog

So I’m sitting across from this very nice lady and her 6 month old husky the other day. As she is talking, a picture pops into my head. I was sitting there thinking of…. ….Bill Murray. I know, my thoughts concern me sometimes too. Anyway, I was thinking of Bill Murray and one of my all time favorite movies, “Meatballs.” Funny movie from the 70’s about a summer camp and the hijinks all the camp counselors get into. The best scene in the movie is when Bill gives a pep talk to rally the camp after losing last year to… Read the rest

Who Do You Think Would Win This Contest Between The Sun And Wind?

There’s an old story about the Sun and Wind. Wind was always telling the Sun that he was stronger and had more power, that he could use his strength to outdo the Sun any day of the week including Sundays. The Wind said he would prove it and pointed to a man with a jacket on. He informed the Sun that he would use his power to blow the jacket off the man. With a big gust he blasted the guy. The man grabbed his jacket and pulled it tight around him. The wind blew harder. The man hugged his… Read the rest

Laws Of “Dog Training” Success

Napoleon Hill wrote a book back in the 1930’s called the Laws of Success. In it he shares 17 principles for success. Number 10 is an interesting one. You see, principle 10 is Accurate Thinking and Mr. Hill states: “Accurate thinkers permit no one to do their thinking for them. Gather information and listen to the opinions of others, but reserve for yourself the privilege of making decisions.” This is some great advice for dog trainers because much of the information they teach is opinion based. For example: A trainer that uses electronic collars will say that the dog does… Read the rest

South Coast Dog Training – How To Solve 80% Of Behavior Problems In Dogs

So many of you know by now that Rach, Scarlett and I have moved back to the South Coast. The move happened fast. Much faster than we expected and I had to work about a week straight from 7:00AM to about 8:00PM. Packing, moving, yard work, unpacking, cleaning etc. When you are that busy you never have any problems sleeping through the night. You really appreciate hitting the sack. Which leads me to today’s brilliant insight. Many of the behavior problems we have with our dogs is the direct result of too much pent up energy. Years ago I had… Read the rest

Terminator Teaches Me “The Spark”

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one interesting dude. Regardless of how you feel about him, he has accomplished some amazing things. World champion bodybuilder, big screen actor, successful businessman, Governor of California, there is no question about it, he knows a few things. I recently read an article he wrote called, “The Spark.” In it he describes how you can’t wait for motivation, that you need to go find it. And chances are, if you don’t find the motivation it will probably eventually find you in a form that you won’t like. He talks about the person who doesn’t take care of… Read the rest
