If Dogs Could Vote – They’d All Vote For ME!

It’s election day here in America. And I will do my civic duty and vote today. I would never make a very good politician. Mostly because I always try to apply some of Napoleon Hill’s best advice. If you read Nap Hill’s stuff you quickly learn that he teaches “accurate thinking.” A skill that is difficult to develop. The main reason is that we make decisions based on emotions. Once you pair a belief backed by strong emotions, look out. Normal, rational people become insane and all reason goes out the window. Years ago I saw firsthand the harm choke… Read the rest

Hello sports fans! Okay, this is not a sports newsletter and I know that many of you don’t like when I talk about sports. You come here for hard hitting dog training advice from the Bruce Lee of the dog training world – me (hehe). Symbol That Strikes Fear And Terror In Millions

It’s become a symbol of fear. The image strikes panic in the hearts of millions. One look and people shake in terror. What is this image that I speak of? I am talking about….. ……a hockey mask. Before the movie “Friday The 13th” came out, was anyone afraid of a hockey mask? Funny how associations work. Pair a harmless item with some gruesome murders, a lot of blood, the right music and bingo – full fledged scarefest. Anyway, tonight your dog may get nervous around the constant parade of ghouls, goblins and little “Jasons” knocking on your door. The best… Read the rest

50 Years In The Making

So tomorrow night is Halloween. My parents were married on Halloween 50 years ago tomorrow. They are celebrating at Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant in New Orleans, so Happy Anniversary Mom and Pop! Mom is my biggest fan and reads all of my emails and always posts them on Facebook. She is actually the one responsible for me becoming a dog trainer. She is a huge dog lover and when I was about seven she brought home a puppy. She and my father were walking around Union Park in Boston. There were a couple of hippies with a box a puppies. She… Read the rest

Why You And Your Dog Have To Be Careful Around The “Experts”

So by now many of you know that I disagree with a lot of “conventional dog training wisdom.” The “experts” are always telling dog owners to: Never let your dog sleep on the bed. Never play tug of war. Always use a choke chain. Don’t let your dog out the door before you. Wait until six months old before training. You know that my take on all of the above is phooey! Let your dog sleep on the bed, play tug games, never use a choke chain, walking out the door – please, six months before training is a sure… Read the rest

Stoopid Criminal Of The Week Reveals Important Dog Training Lesson

Making coffee and listening to the radio this morning. I always bring Rachael her coffee in bed (especially now being five months prego) but had to stop and listen to what I was hearing. The person reporting the news described how some guy in Arizona butt dialed 911 and discussed the complete details of a house that he broke into. He gave a description, details of the robbery AND the address. A police officer checked it out and found that the house was robbed. He tracked down the moron who did it and arrested him and his crew. He unintentionally… Read the rest

You CAN Lead A Horse To Water And Make Him Drink

I know it’s a common statement but you CAN lead a horse to water and make him drink. In fact, you can make him drink a lot of water. How is this done Kemosabe? Very simple. All you need is some…. …..SALT! Put a generous portion of salt in the horse’s oats and ole Seabiscuit will race to the closest water. You won’t have to lead him, he’ll lead you. NOT that I would ever recommend doing that, but what I would recommend is using treats to train your dog. I was teaching a class the other night and one… Read the rest

Little fun and excitement yesterday. Mrs. LaFluer needed help with her newly adopted dog. Being a lifelong dog lover, she had small dogs all of her life. She made a smart move and called in a top dog training specialist (me) to help bring him under control. I was there for about five minutes and even with all my expertise, experience and unlimited knowledge of Canis lupus familiaris, I knew I would not… Read the rest

Automobile Mogul Reveals Secret To Making The Right Decisions For Your Dog

I’m not sure if this story is true but it makes a great point. I once heard that Henry Ford would always take a potential key employee out for dinner to observe him during the meal. He was looking for one move. One move that would determine if he was going to hire the guy or not. The move? SALT! He didn’t mind if the chap used salt what he wanted to know was…. …..did he taste the food before adding the salt. Imagine that! I guess ole Henry wanted to know if the dude was going to make a… Read the rest
