How To Read Your Dog’s Mind

People are always amazed at how fast I can get results with their dogs. It’s easy for me because…..I can read your dog’s mind. I know, sounds like woo woo, hocus pocus stuff and maybe the wheels finally came off the happy bus with our old friend The Amazing Dog Training Man. Please, before you dismiss me let me make my point and PROVE that I can read your dog’s mind. Even better, I am going to teach you to do the same. You see, dogs are not good at hiding what they are thinking and if you pay attention… Read the rest

The Most Embarrassing Behavior Problem Your Dog Can Do

What a week. Rach went into labor on Monday and we went to the hospital around noon. The nursing staff were incredibly nice and her midwife was awesome. Rach did the entire birth all natural. No drugs or anything. I can’t say I’d do the same. After watching her I’d be on the phone with the pharmacy asking the entire staff to load up trays and make their way up to my room. Then again, I’m not as tough as she is. But I have to add, everyone talks about how tough the mom has it, how much hard work… Read the rest

How To Deal With Two Self-Entitled, Disobedient Ratbags

Thank you! Last week I asked for suggestions for my new dog training TV show I’ll be starting soon. I was flooded with emails. I am still reading them and having my crack staff sort and compile the response. Thanks to everyone that took the time to write. I really appreciate it! Anyway, many of them were funny and I had to share this one: “I have two pomeranian/jrt crosses, which when first brought home were two tiny, fluffy, cheeky, balls of fuzzy wuzz who I couldn’t correct sternly out of fear of giving them heart failure – and can… Read the rest

I’d Like Your Help With This One

So every once in a while I’ll call my wife Rachael over to me to let her know I have something to tell her. When she gets to me I say: “You know, I’m kind of a big deal.” She replies: “Why because you have almost 12 million views on YouTube.” Then she usually adds: “That’s great honey. Can you take the garbage out now?” Can you imagine? She’s living with a celebrity. A minor celebrity I’ll admit, but still kinda famous. Totally unimpressed! Sure I’m no Caesar or Victoria Stilwell but I had no big name television station behind… Read the rest

Would You Call Saul Goodman?

One of the greatest shows to ever appear on TV was “Breaking Bad.” In case you never saw the show, it is about this poor schlub, Walter White, a middle aged high school chemistry teacher with a baby on the way when he finds out he has cancer. His diagnosis is pretty grim and he realizes he is about to leave his wife, son and newborn baby with no money. So he does what anyone with an understanding of chemistry would do. He starts making meth and gets involved with the absolute worst elements of society that you could imagine.… Read the rest

The Two Most Important Words Your Dog Has To Learn

Yesterday I shared a link to a long article I wrote in response to a video by a very respected and influential trainer. Here is the link in case you missed it: Awesome Article On Punishment It took me a little while to write the blog post. Not because I am a slow writer, it took me a while because I was criticizing another trainer. I have read, “How To Win Friends And Influence People,” by Dale Carnegie about three times so my article is in direct opposition to the advice in the book. So why did I do it?… Read the rest

This Is Wooba Gooba With The Green Teeth – Let Me In!

More snow this morning here in Sunny Southeastern MA. Some people would get depressed. I think one of the best ways to overcome feeling down is to listen to music. Not the depressing Kurt Cobain 90’s stuff. You need to listen to the 80’s stuff. Music with lyrics like: “Open up the door b!T(# this is wooba gooba with the green teeth – let me in.” In case you don’t recognize the line it is from J. Geils Band’s greatest song: “Musta Got Lost.” Even though many parts of the country are under a blanket of the white stuff, Spring… Read the rest

Beware Of Facebook Dog Training Groups

I have to quit Facebook groups. I was on one yesterday and someone asked what to do if you saw someone using punishment in a class. I was confused because punishment is really a generic term and means many different things to different people. No one would answer my question. This is why many are getting confused about dog training. Punishment is often associated with hurting or harming the dog. Many trainers will tell you that anyone using or talking about punishment is an old school caveman trainer. FALSE. Using a negative consequence does NOT have to hurt or harm.… Read the rest

What Age Should I Start Training My Dog?

What Age Should I Start Training My Dog? Here is a common question I get: “Eric, what age can I start training my pup? I’ve heard so much different advice. Six months, one year, I don’t know who to listen to. Please help.” Instead of answering the question myself.
