Dog Training Or Binge Watching On Netflix

Sunday I did something I haven’t done in years. Rach and the kids were going to Western MA to visit her folks and I had a whole Sunday to myself. That happens about once a year when you have two kids under three years old. And if you’re thinking that I was sitting on the recliner all day with a block of cheddar in one hand, a frosty mug of Budweiser in the other binge watching “Breaking Bad” on Netflix you’d be wrong. You see, I brought a dog home to train. I do this on very rare occasions but… Read the rest

The One Word That Can Save Your Dog’s Life

Imagine this… …your dog gets loose. He is running across the yard heading straight towards a busy street. In your mind’s eye you can see a very tragic event about to happen. You have about three seconds to prevent a very bad outcome. What word would you yell to your dog? Would you say your dog’s name? Would you scream the command, “COME?” Would you yell out, “STOP!” I’ll share the word I would use in just a second but first let’s analyse this situation a little. Your dog is running away from you. Your dog is doing a behavior… Read the rest

Dog Training In Westport MA

I’ve been doing dog training in Westport MA since 1995. I’ve met and worked with a lot of dogs over the years. And one big problem for dog owners is reactive behavior on leash. A dog that is barking and lunging on leash is NOT always aggressive. Often they are very friendly but they never learned how to interact on with other dogs on leash. I recently did a dog training lesson in Westport MA with the dog featured in the videos. I have included a Before and After video of the dog. You’ll see in the first video that… Read the rest

The Power Of Teaching NO!

Answer this question: Your dog bolts through the front door and takes off. How do you get your dog to come back to you. Most people would take off after their dogs and yell “COME” and have some kind of treat ready. If only it were that easy. If all you had to do was offer food and your dog would come back to you. A lot of trainers will tell you that is all you need to do. But I am here to give it to you straight. You know that your dog often ignores your treat. That they… Read the rest

How To Overcome Biggest Dog Training Problem

Last night I drove an hour and a half to help out a dog. This dog was adopted from a rescue that is run by a friend of mine which is why I made the trip. The dog was about to be returned to the rescue because of some behaviors he was doing. He was jumping, humping, very mouthy and would not come back when called. The family had two young children and were concerned that he was becoming aggressive. After the first ten minutes listening to couple, I held up my hand and told them that I knew what… Read the rest

How Far Would You Go To Get Back At Someone?

Went to one of my favorite breakfast restaurants the other day with the family. My wife, kids and in-laws were enjoying coffee when I pointed out the spite tower. Right across the street from The Barn restaurant in Adamsville, RI is a tower that was built out of spite. In 1905 two friends, John Hathaway and Abraham Manchester, got into an argument. Abraham was a merchant and slept in his store every night. His sisters lived across the street and would place a white cloth out the window to signal Abraham when meals were ready. Hathaway, who lived next to… Read the rest

Emergency Recall (Come When Called) Techniques…And Apology

In yesterday’s email I mentioned the little drama going on over at Amazon.com. One person wrote a review about an emergency recall (come when called) technique that could possibly save your dog’s life. She was very angry with the technique that I shared. I also told everyone that you could get a free copy of the book on Amazon and asked if you could leave a review. I should have been a little more clear with my instructions. I should have made it very clear that you could get the Kindle version for free. I apologize for any misunderstanding. You… Read the rest

Amazing Con Man And FREE Book!

Life is very interesting and funny at times. Got a call yesterday from a member of The Dog Training Inner Circle. She called to say that she had accidentally canceled her membership and that was the last thing she wanted to do. We spoke for a few minutes and she told me how much she loved my emails and the information I provided on YouTube and elsewhere. Now, before you think this is a puff piece with me tooting my own horn keep reading. Because later in the day I logged onto Amazon.com. I went to the page with my… Read the rest

How To Get What You Really Want For Christmas

Have you ever really wanted something for Christmas and didn’t get it? Last night I was sipping on some eggnog when my mother-in-law told me a story about a bowling set she got for Christmas when she was a kid. She told her parents that she wanted some “duckpins” for Christmas. Her parents got exactly what she asked for. Being the good parents they were, they went out and got her a bowling set with duckpins and a bowling ball. When my mother-in-law opened the gift she was confused and wondered why they got her a bowling set. Later in… Read the rest

Meet The Greatest Trainer In The World

Funny thing happens when you bring a dog home. The dog starts to do things that you would never allow anyone to do. Even your kids. Your dog starts to sleep on the bed with you. You start sharing your dinner with them. You start to push everything on your counters to the back so nothing is accessible to the dog. You engage in chase games at the worst times. You just want to relax after a long day but find yourself chasing the dog around the house because the dog has the TV remote. There is one simple statement… Read the rest
