The time I was kicked out of two different shelters

Results are extremely important to me when it comes to dog training. Without results the dog often pays the price. Sometimes with his life so I don’t mess around. I want to the dog to learn. Sometimes this requires me to use a negative consequence to get the results needed. This is extremely practical and does not require inflicting pain or harsh methods. But many people, including very popular dog trainers and vet behaviorists, believe that a negative consequence can NEVER be used to train a dog, that ONLY positive reinforcement is to be used. This is a HUGE mistake… Read the rest

This Common Mistake Could Kill Your Dog

Hartford CT in the early 90’s was not Miami Beach. People didn’t exactly flood there for vacation, sightseeing, top notch restaurants or much else. The north end was not a place that you would take a casual evening stroll with a loved one holding hands taking in the ambiance of the city. Unless you were into shootings, drug deals and possible stabbings. This is where I was working at the time. I was doing K9 Security and occasionally had run ins with the locals. A friend of mine who provided guard dogs for businesses in the area (junkyards, car dealerships,… Read the rest

How To Avoid The #1 Dog Training Mistake

It’s a good thing I don’t go to high school in 2016. When I was in high school I was always one step away from getting tossed out. I never quite fit in and was labeled with a learning problem which often resulted in frustration. Frustration for the teachers and me. I made a lot of mistakes which some teachers thought was intentional. Since school was so dreadful, I often took the liberty to skip certain classes. I also choose to skip whole days of school which never turned out to good. I spent many hours in detention. I was… Read the rest

Confessions Of A Private Investigator

Years ago I worked as in the Nationwide Private Investigator Service. A guy I worked with told me an interesting story of a PI he worked with in New York City. His friend was called in to help a group of store owners get rid of some drug dealers that had taken up residence on their block. This was a tricky case. They could take pictures of drug action but the dealers knew they were being watched and were very careful. The PI’s couldn’t use force because that’s illegal, not to mention dangerous. This brilliant investigator came up with an… Read the rest

Dog training is a funny business. There are a lot of opinions. Just last week I was fired by a client. Can you believe that? Dog Training Or Binge Watching On Netflix

Sunday I did something I haven’t done in years. Rach and the kids were going to Western MA to visit her folks and I had a whole Sunday to myself. That happens about once a year when you have two kids under three years old. And if you’re thinking that I was sitting on the recliner all day with a block of cheddar in one hand, a frosty mug of Budweiser in the other binge watching “Breaking Bad” on Netflix you’d be wrong. You see, I brought a dog home to train. I do this on very rare occasions but… Read the rest
