What Does Uncle Sam Know About The Zombie Apocalypse?

Have you noticed all the interest in zombies lately? A recent Wall Street Journal Article noted that Zombie-Mania is in full swing right now. The popularity of movies (World War Z, Warm Bodies, Zombieland) and TV series (The Walking Dead) clearly show that the walking dead have pushed vampires, werewolves and hobbits aside. Even the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted an article on their blog about what to do if the dead should rise from the grave to feast on our entrails. Think I’m kidding? Here is the link: CDC Zombie Article So here is my simple… Read the rest

I’m Trying To Be Awesome Today But….

“I’m trying to be awesome today but I’m exhausted from being awesome yesterday.” I took little Scarlett and Mrs. Amazing Dog Training Man to the circus last week. As we were waiting for the show to start, I overheard the above quote from a lady behind me. I know what she means. It’s not always easy being awesome everyday. Like today. My schedule is jam packed! Time is tight and I did not feel like sitting down to write this morning. But you know what? Awesome is NOT doing big things like most of us think. Awesome is the consistent,… Read the rest

Because I’m A Karate Man!

“That’s called the “quart of blood” technique. You do that, a quart of blood will drop out of a man’s body.” That’s from one of Eddie Murphy’s best movies, Trading Places. One of the best scenes is when he is in a jail telling his cellmates that he has a chain belt in Kung Fu and Bruce Lee was his teacher. He’s acting tough to bluff the bigger guys in the cell with him. It’s a very funny scene and movie. Wondering why I am talking about Eddie Murphy being a karate man Glad you asked. You see, many of… Read the rest

She Thought I Was Amazing – Well Maybe Not

The class was listening to my every word. I had just talked in length about how great playing tug o war is with your dog. Most of the people in class thought that it was bad to play tug games and my take on it prompted a lot of questions. I explained how you can use tug games to teach obedience. One lady attending asked a lot of questions and we talked in great detail about how it would help her dog. At the end of class as everyone was leaving this lady approached me with her dog. She must… Read the rest

“Dude, why do you hate choke collars?”

An interested reader wrote: “Dude, why are you so down on prong and choke collars? There are so many trainers that recommend them and I have been using one on my five month old GSD and am getting great results. I think you are missing the point about these collars and should be a little more open to using them.” Yikes!!!! GASP!!!!! Maybe it’s me. Maybe I should be using them and recommending them. Maybe I should follow the herd of dog trainers that swear by them and have the results to show. That’s it! From this point forward I… Read the rest

I’ve Fallen And I Can’t Get Up

Remember that commercial “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” That commercial was around for years because it addressed a very real fear. If you were elderly or cared for an elderly person this was a big concern. The thought of lying there with no help in sight is very frightening. This happens with leash walking. The thought of your dog dragging you down the street and possibly falling down and not being able to handle your dog is frightening. It’s the main reason some dogs don’t go for walks. Just last week I was working with a client who… Read the rest

Don’t Buy Cheap Pot Holders

I think Grandmothers are the smartest people on the planet. Maybe it comes with time and experience. Maybe they are more observant than the rest of us. What ever the reason, they give great advice and my Grandmother told me this: “Don’t buy cheap pot holders.” Simple but good advice. A good pot holder will last for years and you won’t have to worry about burning your fingers every time you grab a hot pan or pot. It really comes down to making a good investment with your money. So why the heck is a hard hitting, information packed dog… Read the rest

Dog Training Seminar In Dartmouth MA

Was doing a seminar last night in Dartmouth MA at the Humane Society & Shelter South Coast I had about 30 people show up and always have a lot of fun holding these seminars. I delivered a highly informational, useful and incredibly entertaining talk. Everyone in attendance was dazzled and thrilled with the information that I imparted. Well, maybe it didn’t exactly happen like that but I think everyone had fun and learned a few things along the way. My favorite part is when we do Q & A. I am always amazed with the long list of “DON’TS” dog… Read the rest
